What color was the Dukes of Hazzard car?

Who can forget the wild Dukes of Hazzard TV series from the 70's & 80's, with just some good old boys never meaning no harm?

The swashbucking heroes Luke and Bo were joined by Daisy, Jesse, Boss Hogg and a whole bunch more ... including The General Lee, their car.

Ask anyone what color it was and you'll most likely get an instant response of "orange". And whilst many photos today show that's the case, the others who say red are actually correct, at least technically. That's because it was painted "Flame Red", which is confusing because it's shade is closer to orange. Wikipedia says it was originally painted orange but blotches appeared, so they switched to GM Code 70, Flame Red.

However, so far the rumours of Boss Hogg being a tall slim guy always wearing a pink suit are completely unfounded...

The car famously had its doors welded shut, meaning anyone getting in or out had to acrobatically gyrate through it's windows. Try getting that through health & safety today!

Boss Hogg was permanently angry with the boys because they always managed to foil his latest crooked scheme.

As the TV show progressed, a recurring theme was to write a small cameo for a real life celebrity to make a small appearance in, which many did including Roy Orbison.
