Einstein

Wise words but who said them?

MMDE: He said "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result"

Current: He never said "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result"

Most people know the quote, and most people attribute it to Einstein when asked.

So it comes as quite a surprise for them to hear it wasn't him who originally said it.

Even weirder, it turns out the attribution is all a big mistake. An editor used the wrong version in Montana's Bozeman Daily Chronicle, and as a resut found it was said by a character in a mystery book titled "Sudden Death".

Agatha Christie

Was Agatha Christie found after her disappearance?

MMDE: Agatha Christie was not found after her disappearance in 1926

Current: Agatha Christie was found after her disappearance in 1926

There was a real world mystery surrounding the most famous mystery writer of her day, Agatha Christie, in 1926, when she disappeared from her Berkshire home. It sparked a manhunt larger than anything seen before - over 1,000 police officers were drafted in, and , for the first time, aeroplanes.. It was all the more concerning because she left her 7 year old daughter, Rosalind, behind.

Many remember the story, but not her being found. The current version of events have her turning up in a hotel in Yorkshire 11 days later, but some remember her never being found at all, and are pointing to this as a Mandela Effect.

Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs first said 'Great artists steal'?

MMDE: Steve Jobs first said 'Good artists copy, great artists steal'

Current: Steve Jobs was not the first to say 'Good artists copy, great artists steal'

He was quoting Picasso.

He was also being deliberately mischievous, by stealing the quote itself. Yet somehow, this worked and most people today believe it was he who said it originally. Nicely done ;-)

There was always a fuss around Apple's products, and it must be said also concerning some of the other things Steve jobs said. For example, like telling a customer it was his fault he couldn't get a signal because he was "holding his phone wrong".

Albert Finney

When did Albert Finney die?

MMDE: Albert Finney did not die in 2019

Current: Albert Finney died in 2019

Albert Finney was the famous English actor best known for his roles in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning , Tom Jones, Two for the Road, Scrooge and many more.

Many people were surpised to hear of his death in 2019, since they were sure he'd died several years earlier.

There are reports of people being certain they read on his Wiki page he died in 2015. One explanation could be his earlier "death" is being confused with that of the real-life character he played in Erin Brockovitch, Edward L Masry, who died shortly after Big Fish.

People are now so switched on to the Mandela Effect that when they hear of a celebrity death this way, they now know instantly if it will be classed as one when they ask themselves if they though he was already dead.

Slash

Slash died in 1992?

MMDE: Slash did not die in 1992

Current: Slash died in 1992

Don't panic!

This isn't your regular MMDE. Slash technically did die in 1992 for 8 minutes after an overdose, but was revived and made a full recovery. This news still comes as a shock to most people, so it's being classed as one where the news "seems to come from nowhere, all of a sudden."

He was on tour with Metallica and in a hotel, and was apparently very annoyed at himself having died.

He was found in a hotel corridor and the procedure to revive him was very similar to the one in the movie "Pulp Fiction", where a sringe full of naloxone was injected directly to the heart through his chest.

Al Capone

Who was the first to put expiration dates on milk bottles?

MMDE: The FDA was the first to put expiration dates on milk bottles

Current: Al Capone was the first to put expiration dates on milk bottles

It sounds like a joke, but it's true - Al Capone was the first to put expiration dates on milk bottles, and not the FDA which most people would assume to be the case.

When the prohibition ended, he had the trucks and infrastructure already in place to distribute drinks other than the banned ones which had been so lucrative, so for business reasons he switched to milk.

Al Capone was sent to Alcatraz for tax evasion, because he aparrantly never personally murdered anyone and the blame for those which he was suspected of being behind, including the notorious St Valentines Day Massacre, could not be pinned on him.

David Soul

When did David Soul die?

MMDE: David Soul died in 2016

Current: David Soul did not die in 2016

Famous for his role in the action TV series Starsky and Hutch, plus his music, theatre and movie career, David Soul has made many a female fans heart flutter over the years. It was with great happiness, therefore, when many people heard he was alive and well as of Feb 2019, because they were sure he died in 2016.

Celebrity death hoaxes are rampant on the internet, probably because they are so easy to start - all it needs is s tweet, or a post in the right message forum. Don't forget the famous saying about bad news having gone round the world twice before good news catches up with it. 2016 was a particularly bad year for real celebrity deaths, so adding David Soul to them might seem plausible to some.

There are many reports of people specifically remembering how he died - by committing suicide.
