Can the past change? It sounds incredible, but scientists are debating exactly this, with various theories ranging from quantum mechanics to the many-worlds interpretation. If it could, how would it appear to us? The internet is buzzing with wild ideas, so it's time to go over where they originated, and consider in detail what exactly might be causing it.

Mutiny on the Bounty: Captain Bligh
When you think of The Mutiny on the Bounty, it's usually the idea of a crew of sailors being treated so badly by their evil captain that they had no choice but rebel against him. This turns out to be wrong, because records today show that Captain Bligh was actually regarded as kinder than most of his fellow captains, and the mutiny was instead caused by the sailors wishing to return to the desert island paradise they had just spent 5 months in.
Captain Bligh never keelhauled anyone, and the scene from the famous movie seems to have been fabricated in order to sell the story of him being cruel.

Elisa Lam: Found dead in a hotel water tank
The tragic story of Elisa Lams' death is still a huge mystery today.
She was the Canadian student who was found in a hotel's water tank in 2013 after being dead in there for some time. The disturbing thing is the guests had been complaining of the water being discoloured and smelling off, which prompted the hotel staff to investigate the tanks and find her body in one.
Many people remember it being widely reported at the time that the hatch was closed from the outside, which would have been impossible for a single person to do once inside. The Mandela Effect they are experiencing now is that it is being reported as being open when she was found, and apparently has always been reported that way.

Wise words but who said them?
Most people know the quote, and most people attribute it to Einstein when asked.
So it comes as quite a surprise for them to hear it wasn't him who originally said it.
Even weirder, it turns out the attribution is all a big mistake. An editor used the wrong version in Montana's Bozeman Daily Chronicle, and as a resut found it was said by a character in a mystery book titled "Sudden Death".

Was Agatha Christie found after her disappearance?
There was a real world mystery surrounding the most famous mystery writer of her day, Agatha Christie, in 1926, when she disappeared from her Berkshire home. It sparked a manhunt larger than anything seen before - over 1,000 police officers were drafted in, and , for the first time, aeroplanes.. It was all the more concerning because she left her 7 year old daughter, Rosalind, behind.
Many remember the story, but not her being found. The current version of events have her turning up in a hotel in Yorkshire 11 days later, but some remember her never being found at all, and are pointing to this as a Mandela Effect.

Steve Jobs first said 'Great artists steal'?
In fact, it turns out he was quoting Picasso.
He was also being deliberately mischievous, by stealing the quote itself. Yet somehow, this worked and most people today believe it was he who said it originally. Nicely done ;-)
There was always a fuss around Apple's products, and it must be said also concerning some of the other things Steve jobs said. For example, like telling a customer it was his fault he couldn't get a signal because he was "holding his phone wrong".

When did Albert Finney die?
Albert Finney was the famous English actor best known for his roles in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning , Tom Jones, Two for the Road, Scrooge and many more.
Many people were surpised to hear of his death in 2019, since they were sure he'd died several years earlier.
There are reports of people being certain they read on his Wiki page he died in 2015. One explanation could be his earlier "death" is being confused with that of the real-life character he played in Erin Brockovitch, Edward L Masry, who died shortly after Big Fish.
People are now so switched on to the Mandela Effect that when they hear of a celebrity death this way, they now know instantly if it will be classed as one when they ask themselves if they though he was already dead.

Slash died in 1992?
Don't panic!
This isn't your regular MMDE. Slash technically did die in 1992 for 8 minutes after an overdose, but was revived and made a full recovery. This news still comes as a shock to most people, so it's being classed as one where the news "seems to come from nowhere, all of a sudden."
He was on tour with Metallica and in a hotel, and was apparently very annoyed at himself having died.
He was found in a hotel corridor and the procedure to revive him was very similar to the one in the movie "Pulp Fiction", where a sringe full of naloxone was injected directly to the heart through his chest.
